Paoli Hospital plans to file for trauma center OK - Philadelphia Business Journal:

Chester County, Pa., has been without a trauma centerr since Brandywine Hospital closed its trauma center in It is the only county in southeastern Pennsylvania without a designatefdtrauma center. Paoli Hospital plans to work in collaboration with Thomaz Jefferson University Hospitalin Philadelphia, a level- I trauma center operator, to developp a trauma program at Paoli Hospital with the goal of becoming accreditecd in 2011. “Initiating a trauma center is a major and we are committed to supporr the program to the level necessary to assuree highquality care,” said John J. president and CEO of Main Line Health, Paoli Hospital’d parent organization.
“The pre-hospita care in this regiomn provided byfirst responders, emergenct medical technicians and paramedics is Working with these committed people and with our dedicatef physicians and hospital staff, we are confident that we can meet the identifiede need of this critical service.” According to an analysie conducted by the Chester Countt Trauma Services Task a committee formed last year, the averag e time from injury to admission to a trauma center is 15 to 20 minutes longer for Chester County residents than for residents in nearby Chester County Commissioner Carol Aichele supportedf Paoli Hospital’s action saying, “One of Chestert County’s strategic goals is to have safe I am pleased with Paoli Hospital’es decision to pursue trauma center designation becaused it will provide our citizens with closer access to enhanced medicalp care.
This definitely is a benefit to ChesterCountuy citizens.” Dr. Robert C. Fried, chief of surgery at Paolik Hospital, noted the medical center’s new patient-carw pavilion set to open in July will nearly quadruplw itsemergency department’s capacity and provide spacew for two dedicated trauma rooms.
